Our Intro Beginner + Advanced Beginner Women’s Surf Lessons are split into two levels to ensure you’re surfing alongside women at a similar stage.

This is the ultimate session for you if you’re a…

Beginner:

  • A complete first-timer 🌊

  • Someone who needs a little help catching waves

  • Someone who can catch whitewash sometimes but lacks confidence and just needs that extra support in the water

Advanced Beginner:

  • Confident catching whitewash waves on your own

  • Ready to start progressing onto green (unbroken) waves

  • Happy to surf whitewash if that’s what the conditions offer

  • Comfortable paddling out the back when conditions are suitable

Our 1-day Introductory Beginner & Advanced Beginner Women’s Surf Lessons are the perfect opportunity to give surfing a go or take your skills to the next level all while having fun with like-minded women in a safe, friendly, and welcoming environment.

Founder Jess Laing, who has grown up on Phillip Island and surfed here for over 29 years, brings deep local knowledge and a genuine appreciation for what it means to be a woman in the waves.

All of our Surfing Australia Certified female coaches are highly experienced, passionate ocean lovers who are dedicated to helping you gain confidence, improve your technique, and share the stoke!

You’ll learn essential surf safety and awareness skills, refine your surfing technique, and build the confidence you need to progress. We guarantee you’ll leave with new skills, new friends, and a big smile.

At Girls on Board we use a high coach to student ratio to ensure maximum coaching time for participants. We pride ourselves on running personalised, small-group sessions so everyone gets the attention they need. Our goal is to make sure you feel supported, encouraged, and included.

Where: YCW Beach, Phillip Island. YCW beach car park is the unmarked, dirt car park located at the end of Beachcomber Avenue, Smiths Beach.  We will meet at the Girls on Board van in the YCW car park.

 

🌴 What to Bring

To make the most of your surf session, we recommend bringing:

  • Wetsuit – These can be hired from local surf shops (we’ll provide more info upon booking). These are optional during the summer months. 

  • Swimsuit – To wear under your wetsuit or a sturdy one if you choose to go without a wetsuit.

  • Water bottle – Stay hydrated before and after your lesson.

  • Booking voucher – On your phone is fine

    • 1 hr 45 min surf lesson led by expert Surfing Australia–accredited female coaches

    • Beginner surfboard provided (optional — you’re welcome to bring your own board; hard boards are accepted if you can manage them safely in a busy lineup)

    • Small groups for a personalised experience

    • Surf safety & ocean awareness skills

    • Technique tips including turning, reading, and catching unbroken waves — and more!

    • Female-operated sessions run by passionate local coaches

    • Inclusive, welcoming environment where everyone feels supported

You will recieve a confirmation email with all the information you need in the lead up to your class!

A minimum of 4 people are required for this class to go ahead. If minimum numbers are not met you will be given option of class reschedule or full refund.

Cancellation & Reschedule Policy

  • Bookings are non-refundable.

  • Rescheduling: Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice to reschedule your lesson.

  • Failure to give the required notice means you forfeit the cost of the lesson.

  • In the event of unforeseen circumstances on our side (unsafe surf conditions, extreme weather, etc.), we will reschedule your lesson or offer a credit toward a future session. More info below ⬇️

 

Cancellation Policy – Unexpected Events

At Girls on Board, we aim to provide surf lessons in all conditions, rain or shine, as long as it is safe to do so. However, there are rare circumstances beyond our control that may affect your booking, including extreme weather, natural disasters, or other unforeseen events.

In these situations:

  • If we need to cancel or reschedule a lesson, we will notify you as soon as possible.

  • You will be offered the option to reschedule your lesson for another available time or receive a credit toward a future session.

  • If you are unable to attend the rescheduled lesson, a refund may be issued at our discretion.

We appreciate your understanding that safety is our top priority and some events are simply unavoidable.
