Public Group Lessons
Our public group lessons are open to everyone - guys, girls, kids, and adults (ages 8+) and are perfect for complete beginners or advanced beginners. At Girls on Board we use a high coach to student ratio to ensure maximum coaching time for participants.
Learn at your own pace in a fun, friendly, and relaxed environment. Our classes are primarily led by female coaches, with our male coach Dylan assisting in some sessions. All coaches are qualified in a minimum of Surfing Australia Foundation Surf Coaching Cert and hold First Aid, WWCC, and Ocean Safety qualifications at a minimum. They bring extensive ocean experience and a passion for sharing their love of the waves.
Lessons are perfect for booking solo or with friends.
Safety & Age Requirements
Participants must be 8 years or older.
Children under 10 must have a parent in the water for the full session, who takes full responsibility for supervision and safety.
For children under 8, please consider private lessons or school holiday programs.
Booking Information
Most online bookings close 4 hours before the session. For last-minute bookings, call us on 0403 126 800.
Multi-Lesson Package – Summer Public Classes: 3 classes for $205 (plus booking fee). Contact us to book and reduce booking fees.

We will meet at the Girls on Board van in the YCW car park. YCW is the unmarked, dirt car park at the end of Beachcomber Avenue, Smiths Beach.
There are a few things you’ll need to bring to your session:
• Wetsuit if you’d like to wear one (you can hire these from local surf shops. We’ll send details after booking)
• Swimsuit
• Water bottle
• Your booking voucher (digital is totally fine)
You’ll be provided with the following when you arrive:
• Beginner surfboard (provided surfboards must be used in these classes)
• Rash shirt (also required for safety purposes)
• Sunscreen
• A 1hr 45min surf lesson
- You’ll receive a confirmation email with all the info you need in the lead-up to your class.
- A minimum of 4 participants is required for the class to run. If minimum numbers aren’t met, you’ll have the option to reschedule or receive a full refund.
- Sometimes conditions or tides mean we need to adjust the lesson start time. If that happens, we’ll let you know, and if the new time doesn’t work for you, you’ll be offered a replacement session or a refund.
Cancellation & Reschedule Policy
Bookings are non-refundable.
Rescheduling: Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice to reschedule your lesson.
Failure to give the required notice means you forfeit the cost of the lesson.
In the event of unforeseen circumstances on our side (unsafe surf conditions, extreme weather, etc.), we will reschedule your lesson or offer a credit toward a future session. More info below ⬇️
Cancellation Policy – Unexpected Events
At Girls on Board, we aim to provide surf lessons in all conditions, rain or shine, as long as it is safe to do so. However, there are rare circumstances beyond our control that may affect your booking, including extreme weather, natural disasters, or other unforeseen events.
In these situations:
If we need to cancel or reschedule a lesson, we will notify you as soon as possible.
You will be offered the option to reschedule your lesson for another available time or receive a credit toward a future session.
If you are unable to attend the rescheduled lesson, a refund may be issued at our discretion.
We appreciate your understanding that safety is our top priority and some events are simply unavoidable.
